A Few of My Favorite Things

New Years Eve “Goodies”!
Yes, that’s what these were on New Years Day after my brother and I woke up. We couldn’t wait to see what our parents brought us home.  Best hats were these guys. The top hats. The little woman’s tiara style headgear were too small and wouldn’t stay on. No, had to have the oversized men’s variety. My Mom would grab all the leis she could get and bring them home. So I’d be wearing a too big paper top hat on my head and my neck would be overrun with cheap, brightly colored plastic leis. What every well dressed 10 year old wore in very early January in the late 60’s.
Now on to the “good stuff”. The noisemakers! Just the thing to enhance your yearly veiwing of the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Years Day.  On your big black and white Tv in the living room.  First off, there were the ‘crappy’ noisy parent annoyers. These things:

They made a horrible sound and lasted about 2 minutes! The roll out ones would roll all the way out twice if you were lucky and then lay flat. Always got alot of those.  But the creme de la creme were these lovelies:

Take these in your hand and make them spin around and pure joy. Not only could you get this great rhythm going, they made the most annoying clicking sound. Guaranteed to annoy Mom and Dad. Especially after having been out VERY late the night before!  I can’t tell you how many time my Mother told me to put one of these down, LOL  And since these were metal, they could last til spring!  But they had this strange habit of disappearing. January 2nd. Funny that…
